Q. Can I tilt/change orientation of my Sumatotek Battery during installation?

A. Yes, You can.

Lithium Batteries are completely dry batteries with no spilling issues unless physically punctured. You can install the battery in any orientation in your Electric Scooter but keep in mind that the BMS is installed on the top of the battery. So do not completely invert the battery’s orientation (upside down) because doing so might put the pressure of the battery on the BMS. The weight of the battery might damage the BMS.

Q. I have received/purchased a new SUMATOTEK Lithium Battery. I am facing few issues in starting my battery. What should I do?

A. If you have purchased a new SUMATATOTEK Lithium Battery and you have trouble starting your vehicle then there are a few steps you should follow. The steps may be different for a dealer or a customer.

CUSTOMER

  1. Check your battery carefully for any signs of physical damage due to transportation. If you find any visible signs of damage immediately inform a SUMATOTEK representative or your nearest point of purchase.

    DEALER
  2. Check the battery carefully for any signs of physical damage due to transportation. If there are any physical signs of damage , you must immediately follow these instructions.
    1. Assess the severity of the mechanical damage. Check the battery voltage on both the connectors. Insert a charger into the charging port and check if the battery is charging properly.
    2. If the battery is damaged severely, always ensure that the battery is safe from fire hazard. Open the battery while making a video, check if any BMS sensing wires are cut, any +ve or -ve wires are broken loose from their joints, all metallic areas are insulated and no cell should be puntured or physically damaged.
  3. If there are no signs of physical damage, check the battery voltage. If the battery shows voltage, then charge the battery via the charging connector. If the battery doesn’t charge or discharge then the BMS Connector might be loose. Read how to Fix a loose BMS Connector.

Q. I have received 2 connectors with my newly purchased SUMATOTEK Lithium Battery and Charger. What should I do with them or how should I use them with my Electric Scooty?

A. First of all, congratulations on your newly purchased SUMATOTEK Lithium Battery and Charger. When you unbox your battery and charger you may find 1 or 2 types of connectors within the package contents depending on your choice of items during purchase.

  1. Industrial Connector: Discharging / Charging
  2. 3 Pin Socket: Charging Only

The 1st connector or the Industrial connector is a 50A rated heavy discharge connector suitable for heavy load applications. Use this connector to attach the SUMATOTEK Lithium Battery to the Electric Scooter. This connector will be connected to the Positive and Negative Battery connections of the controller.
In the case of an old model Electric Scooter, these Positive and Negative Battery connections are the same that were previously connected to the GEL Batteries. Note that in the case of GEL Batteries there are 4/5/6 batteries connected in series and therefore you will find the Positive connection at the Positive Pin of the 1st Battery and the Negative connection at the Negative Pin of the Last Battery (4/5/6th Battery for 48V/60V/72V respectively).
Do not forget to insulate the connection before you connect the battery and always remember to turn off the MCB and then connect the battery.

The 3 Pin Socket is an additional socket that may or may not come to your use depending on the model of the Electric Scooter you are using at the moment. This connector is provided to replace the charging socket provided below the seat which is used to charge the battery without opening the scooter seat or the boot space. Different vehicles have different wiring connections. The connector has 3 terminals but only 2 are used. The polarity of the connector is given in the product’s description.
Once you have installed the 3 Pin Socket always remember to check the polarity of the charger and the 3 Pin Socket and ensure that the positive pin of the charger goes into the positive pin of the connector. If the connections are reversed then the charger may get damaged and such chargers are not covered under warranty.
Do not use the 3 Pin Socket for discharging the battery. It has a maximum rating of 10A and may pose a fire risk due to excessive heat if loaded with high currents.

Q. Where should I install my SUMATOTEK Lithium Battery in my Okinawa Praise Scooty Model?

A. Vertically standing up or on the Sloped Section beneath the Seat. Okinawa Praise is a unique vehicle compared to all other electric vehicles out there. Its battery compartment is longitudinal and starts from below the seat to the end of the leg rest. Its ground clearance is also very low compared to other Electric Scooters. Do not install the battery beneath the leg rest. During raining season if you encounter a pothole filled with water then water might seep into the lower section of the battery compartment. Any contact with water will lead to accelerated corrosion of the battery and its parts. Keep in mind that this is a very important point for areas with heavy rain and coastal districts.
As a good practice, you should install the SUMATOTEK Lithium Battery in 2 ways.

  1. The 1st way is to install it vertically standing up. This will lead to an end of the trunk space and you will have to cut the trunk bottom so that the battery can stand vertically. Okinawa uses the same method of installation in their new models which comes with Lithium-Ion Batteries. Check out this SUMATOTEK YouTube Video on our installation guide.
  2. The 2nd Way is to install it just below the seat at an inclination of about 30Degrees. The inclination is important as it prevents any water from accumulating near the surface of the battery. The top lid of the battery is now at a good height from the ground.

In both these methods you should note that proper packing must ben given so that the battery doesn’t move when the vehicle is running. It may cause snapping of connectors, loosening of welding points and any unintended issues within the battery. The packing must also ensure that the heat of the battery is not trapped within the packing. Do not use flammable materials or heat insulating materials for filing up the empty space near the battery. Weld seal metal clamps to hold the battery in place or place wooden planks to keep them from moving.

Q. My vehicle charging connector is different than that of the SUMATOTEK Lithium Charger. What should I do?

A. You need to change your vehicle charging connector. We provide a compatible female connector with our SUMATOTEK Lithium Charger. Remove the battery first, then connect/solder the wires carefully with the connector provided. Be careful to check the polarity of the connector after you have connected/soldered the wires with the connector. Also, note that in case you exchange the polarity (connect the terminals wrongly or in opposite direction) of the connector then the charger might get damaged. So be careful before you connect the battery or charger. Double-check the connections and verify if they are connected and insulated properly.

Q. Previously my vehicle had GEL Batteries inside. Will SUMATOTEK Lithium-Ion Battery fit in my existing vehicle?

A. If your Electric Vehicle had GEL Batteries then there is a high chance that SUMATOTEK Lithium Ion Batteries will fit inside. Lithium-Ion Batteries are roughly half the size of LEAD ACID/GEL Batteries. We have also mentioned the compatible vehicles in the Additional Information section of the product. You can also use the Compatible Electric Vehicles filter to find which battery will fit in your model of vehicle.
